Being a tea addict, I am always seen sipping from a plastic bag of Teh Tarik ikat tepi from Malaysian kopitiam, or a large cup of Chatime/Tealive. I was almost running out of options. But, recently I discovered a new place to fix my tea cravings! If you are a big fan of our neighbouring country’s tea, this is just the place for you.

Mon Chaang Thai Tea by Chapayom is a new franchise in Malaysia, where their first outlet is in Menara Citibank. Widely known as Chapayom in other countries, Mon Chaang opened their second outlet in Aeon Sunway Pyramid (LG-2).

Mon Chaang’s menu is simple and revolves around their core ingredients which are Green tea, Rose tea, and of course, Thai red tea, also known as Cha Yen (ชาเย็น). I like how they solely focus on the tea leaves for their signature drink collection rather than having a complicated or sophisticated concoction on their menu.

It allows patrons to appreciate the authenticity and simplicity of tea alone.
Aside from the three main tea leaves, they also have Thai cocoa, Thai coffee, as well as Cham (mixture of Tea & Coffee). From the menu, you may observe three different varieties- milk tea series, lime series, and coffee/cocoa series.

I am really impressed with the display of the ingredients used in making the tea. Three mason jars sat in a row, where each containing authentic tea leaves (Green Tea leaves, Rose Tea leaves, Red Tea leaves) from Thailand. You may see two cans of milk- local condensed milk and evaporated milk, located next to the jars of tea leaves. There was also a bowl of limes! I am very happy and fascinated with their transparency with their ingredients.

The freshly prepared tea

Apart from Thai tea, Mon Chaang also sells a variety of Thai keropok and Thai Soft Serve ice-cream. The ice cream comes in two flavours- Chocolate and Green tea.

 The Menu

Comes in hot & cold (blended/cold)

Each selection comes in three options which are hot, cold, and blended. The beverages are priced reasonably and totally worth it as you will be getting an authentic serving. You can also pair your drinks with a Thai snack of your choice!

I have selected a few drinks from their menu, which are Thai Milk Red Tea, Thai Milk Rose Tea, Thai Lime Green Tea, Thai Milk Tea & Coffee (Cham), and Thai Cocoa.

Here is the verdict:

Thai Milk Red Tea
It has a familiar taste of Teh Tarik but it has a thicker consistency and it is more milky. In fact, they actually Tarik the tea prior to serving. It is the sweetest among the rest and thus, it is perfect for sweet tooth.

Thai Milk Rose Tea
My favourite pick! It has a very strong floral and aromatic scent. It also has a familiar taste of bandung, but the rose tea leaves a very pleasant floral aftertaste which perfumes your mouth. The strong rose flavour cuts through the taste of the milk tea. It is a very relaxing and therapeutic drink and I can imagine myself sipping in a spa in Thailand.

Thai Lime Green Tea

The most refreshing drink on the list above! Wakes you up immediately after one sip. Probably because lime and green tea are both very invigorating to our palates. I love the combination of green tea with a hint of zesty citrus lime. Perfect drink for hot days!

Thai Milk Tea & Coffee (Cham)
It has the perfect balance of coffee and tea! Being caffeine sensitive, I really cannot tell that there was a portion of coffee in this drink because it was blended so well. The aftertaste has a slight acidic taste of coffee. This is the Thai style of yinyeong, suitable for those who cannot decide between coffee and tea.

Thai Cocoa
Chocolate lovers rejoice! This is a must-try comfort drink. The sweetness level is fine and there is a good balance between sweet and bitter. It also has a very thick consistency! This is not even the blended version, and yet it is already so thick! Loving the generous amount of cocoa they put in this drink!
